Snorkeling and fishing in Silver Sands

SILVER SANDS

For the past 20 years I worked with my friend Erol who was able to take guests snorkeling and fishing off the beach at Silver Sands.  In 2013 Erol died and we will miss him.  His helper Mushlaq has continued the work taking tourists on both trips.

Snorkeling – He normally takes groups out in the early morning out to the reef which is about a mile or so out from the beach.  He stays there for an hour to 90 minutes and you can snorkel and see the bright schools of fish, lobster amount the coral and a few large fish.  Yes, you might see a sting ray or so.  He has an assortment of snorkeling gear but if you have your own, bring them.  He can handle up to six or so in his boat which gets you out to the reef in a few minutes.  Cost for snorkeling is $15 per person and can be the highlight of your trip. Don’t get upset if when you meet him at 7:30 or 8:00 in the morning, he postpones the trip. Weather has to be perfect for you to enjoy yourself, he does not want any large waves creating an issue.

Fishing – He can do bottom fishing or trolling.  He goes out for several hours, not sure, I think three hours.  For bottom fishing he charges $120 and for trolling he charges $150.  This is the total for two or three people.  Check with him on the price and the amount of people.  This past trip (2/14), Cliff Beck and his brother-in-law enjoyed a big day catching lots of fish.

DEEP SEA FISHING – FALMOUTH

Several years ago I made contact David Muschett who owns a boat that is for hire for deep sea fishing. He is located at Fisherman’s Inn on our side of Falmouth just 15 minutes away.  He will pick up and return you back to the villa.  He charges $600 for a 1/2 day fishing trip (4 hours) for four persons.  Each additional person up to a max of 8 is $40.  He does do all day trips (8 hours $1100) and can have lines for 6 or 7 and the boat will hold up to 8 persons.   Pick up time at the villa is 6:45 and the boat departs at 7:00 am. A deposit of $300 will be picked up by David on the first night at your villa.

Fisherman keep their catch except for marlin which is usually shared with the boat.  Other catch are barracuda, tuna, wahoo and mahi mahi. They go out a maximum of 15 miles.  David’s phone number is 876-276-9885.

In 2014 Dirk Slack and friends caught a 87 inch marlin which weighted approximately 160 pounds.
